DK 2020 01107 A1 Bracket assembly for windows and doors Technical field of the invention The present invention relates to the field of locking systems for windows and doors. Background of the invention One of the most common ways to break into a home is through the door and the windows. It is often a security aspect that is overlooked because a window or door should have a nice appearance. However, most windows and doors are vulnerable even to rather simple forms of mechanical pressure exerted upon the frame's locking mechanism. Scandinavian type windows that can open are particularly vulnerable as there are very few, if any, suitable compact locking mechanisms that effectively locks the frame and sash to one another. GB2310245 discloses a lock for use in a window or door, which opens and closes in a frame. The lock comprises a first latch member adapted to be mounted in or on the frame; a second latch member adapted to be mounted in or on the window or door and to inter-engage with the first latch member; and an actuating means adapted to be mounted on the window or door and arranged to move the second latch member relative to the window or door, into and out of a locking position in which it engages with the first latch member. Each of said latch members are formed with a respective latch portion that projects from the window or door or the frame respectively and engages with the latch portion of the other of said latch members in said locking position. Object of the Invention The objective of the present invention is to provide a compact locking mechanism suitable for both doors and windows that does not change their overall appearance. > DK 2020 01107 A1 Description of the Invention A first aspect of the present invention relates to a bracket assembly for windows and doors comprising: - a first bracket part for attachment to a window or door frame; - a second bracket part for attachment to a window sash or door panel; and - a locking mechanism for locking the second bracket part to the first bracket part; wherein the first bracket part comprises: i) a base plate comprising first and second opposing faces, and side edges; wherein said base plate is adapted for being fastened to a window or door frame; and ii) a first anchor point connected to said base plate and extending outwards relative to the first face of said base plate; wherein the second bracket part comprises: a) a first plate having first and second opposing faces, and side edges, and adapted for attachment to a window sash or door panel; and b) a second plate having first and second opposing faces, and side edges, and slidably connected to the first face of said first plate, and adapted for indirect or direct connection to a window or door lock case; wherein said second plate comprises a hook-shaped part adapted to engage with the first anchor point of said first bracket part; wherein, the first anchor point is connected to a side edge of the first bracket part, and wherein a third anchor point is connected to the opposite side edge of the first bracket part; wherein the hook-shaped part of the second plate is further adapted to engage with said third anchor point. This configuration allows a user to lock the window or door in a position where it is slightly opened, thereby allowing air to enter between the window sash or door panel and the frame. 2 DK 2020 01107 A1 In the present context, the term "lock case” should be understood broadly and to cover other terms used synonymously, such as centre lock case, centre lock housing, centre gear box, centre lock body, or centre locking mechanism. As with other bracket assemblies for the purpose of locking systems for windows and doors, the first bracket part should be attached to the window or door frame, while the second bracket part is to be mounted to the window sash or door panel. The first bracket part comprises a base plate comprising first and second opposing faces, and side edges, i.e. it is a relatively flat plate. The base plate is adapted for being fastened to a window or door frame, e.g. through screw holes formed therein. The first bracket part also comprises a first anchor point connected to the base plate and extending outwards relative to the first face of said base plate. The first anchor point may have different configurations, such as shaped as a ring, a channel, or simply a protrusion formed by bending the base plate one or more times, such as L-shaped or U-shaped. The second bracket part comprises a first plate having first and second opposing faces, and side edges, i.e. it is a relatively flat plate. The first plate is adapted for attachment to a window sash or door panel, e.g. through screw holes formed therein. Furthermore, the second bracket part comprises a second plate having first and second opposing faces, and side edges, and slidably connected to the first face of the first plate. As the first plate is fixed to a window sash or door panel, it is the second plate that is the moving part during use. The invention is not limited to the specific mechanism of how to mechanically move the second plate relative to the first plate as many mechanisms are suitable. Hence, the second plate is adapted for indirect or direct connection to a window or door lock case. The second plate comprises a hook-shaped part adapted to engage with the first anchor point of the first bracket part. In the present context, the term "hook-shaped” is by no means limiting in respect to the geometrical form of the head, and includes all forms, which are to be inserted around the first anchor point by sliding the second plate in one direction, such that the first and second 1 DK 2020 01107 A1 bracket parts are interlocked. Obviously, the operation should be possible to reverse by sliding the second plate in the opposite direction. | one or more embodiments, the first bracket part further comprises a second anchor point mounted on the first face of said base plate, and wherein the second plate of the second bracket part is configured as a guide track adapted for receiving said second anchor point. The guide track may simply be formed by bending the edge or edges of the base plate. This configuration allows for a tight closure of the window sash or door panel to the corresponding frame. | one or more embodiments, the guide track comprises an elongate first flange extending away from the second face of the second plate and further functioning as a striking plate for the second anchor point when the first and second bracket parts engage with one another. | one or more embodiments, the guide track comprises an elongate second flange extending away from the second face of the first plate and parallel to the first flange, thereby defining a closed guide track therebetween. The second flange will prevent, or at least delay, a burglar using a crowbar from forcing the first and second bracket parts apart or from removing a bracket from the sash, panel, or frame. Furthermore, the access with a crowbar between the window sash or door panel and the corresponding frame is hindered. | one or more embodiments, the first flange comprises an opening adapted for receiving the second anchor point. | one or more embodiments, the first flange comprises the hook-shaped part. This configuration makes the assembly more compact. | one or more embodiments, the second bracket part further comprises: c) a third plate slidably connected to the second face of the first plate and på DK 2020 01107 A1 attached to the second plate; wherein said third plate is adapted for connection to a window or door lock case. This configuration mimics the structure of an espagnolette locking system. | one or more embodiments, the first plate comprises an elongate guide recess extending from the first to the second face, and wherein the third plate is attached to the second plate via a guide pin extending through said guide recess. A second aspect relates to a window and window sash or door frame and door panel comprising a bracket assembly according to the present invention. A third aspect relates to a bracket assembly comprising a first bracket part for attachment to a window or door frame, and a second bracket part for attachment to a window sash or door panel; wherein the second bracket part comprises a hook-shaped part adapted to engage with an anchor point of the first bracket part. As used in the specification and the appended claims, the singular forms "a", "an", and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Ranges may be expressed herein as from "about" or "approximately" one particular value and/or to "about" or "approximately" another particular value. When such a range is expressed, another embodiment includes from the one particular value and/or to the other particular value. Similarly, when values are expressed as approximations, by use of the antecedent "about", it will be understood that the particular value forms another embodiment. It should be noted that embodiments and features described in the context of one of the aspects of the present invention also apply to the other aspects of the invention. . The bracket assembly may have various configurations, and a nonlimiting example is shown in the following. The bracket assembly 100 may be used for both windows and doors, and comprises a first bracket part 200 for attachment to a window or door frame, a second bracket part 300 for attachment to a window sash or door panel, and a locking mechanism (e.g. 220, 322) for locking the second bracket part 300 to the first bracket part 200. The first bracket part 200 is shown with a base plate 210, two first anchor points 220, a second anchor point 230, a spacer element 240, and a third anchor point o DK 2020 01107 A1 250. The two first anchor points 220 are connected to the side edge of the base plate 210 and extend outwards relative to the first of two opposing faces of said base plate 210. The first anchor points 220 are L-shaped and are formed in one piece together with the base plate 210 (Figure 5). The other face of the base plate is adapted for facing the frame as seen in Figure 10. In between the anchor points 220 the spacer element 240 is positioned. This element has the purpose of aiding in the alignment of the first bracket part during mounting and comprises screw holes for fastening the first bracket to the frame. The second bracket part 300 is shown with a first plate 310, a second plate 320, a third plate, a hook-shaped part 322, and an opening 324. The first plate 310 has first and second opposing faces, and side edges, and is adapted for attachment to a window sash or door panel via screw holes formed therein. The second plate 320 has first and second opposing faces, and side edges, and is attached to the third plate 330 via two guide pins 326 each extending through a guide recess 316 formed in the first plate 310 (Figures 6 and 8). Thereby, both the second 320 and third 330 plates are slidably connected to the first plate 310. The third plate 330 is connected to a window or door lock case (not shown), e.g. in a manner like an espagnolette locking system, thereby being moved up or down as a handle of the lock case is being turned. An espagnolette locking system is the flat metal strip, which runs up the locking side of a window or door and moves when the handle of the lock case is turned. Rather than having the round studs (mushrooms), which move up and down (or side to side depending on how your window sits) when the handle is moved, the third plate 330 is connected to the second plate 320 having two hook-shaped parts 322 each adapted to engage with a first anchor point 220 of the first bracket part 200 (Figures 2 and 4). Hence, when the handle is turned it operates the mechanism moving the hook-shaped parts 322 up and down or backwards and forwards, depending on the mounting direction. The first bracket part 200 further comprises a second anchor point 230 mounted on the first face of said base plate 210. The second plate 320 of the second bracket part 300 is configured as a guide track adapted for receiving the second 0 DK 2020 01107 A1 anchor point 230 (Figures 3 and 4). The guide track comprises an elongate first flange 323 extending away from the second face of the second plate 320 and further functioning as a striking plate for the second anchor point 230, when the first 200 and second 300 bracket parts engage with one another. The guide track is also shown with an elongate second flange 325 extending away from the second face of the first plate 310 and parallel to the first flange, thereby defining a closed guide track therebetween. The opening 324 adapted for receiving the second anchor point 230 is formed in the first flange 323. Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view of a second bracket part in accordance with various embodiments of the invention. Figure 9 is a perspective view of a second bracket part 300 mounted in a frame part.
